Founded in Lisbon, by public deed, on October 3rd, 2008, as a private Association (Charity – Collective Number 508651441), at the initiative of a group of Phaleristic enthusiasts.
The Phaleristics Academy of Portugal (AFP) is an international association of collectors, researchers, amateurs and others, interested in promoting and deepening the study and dissemination of Phaleristics – the science that studies the insignia of orders, medals and decorations – through publications, meetings, conferences, exhibitions and study visits.
Originally with a nucleus of 28 Founding members, 4 foreigners, the Academy currently has 103 Academics, of which 36 Correspondents, from 13 European countries, Canada, USA, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Australia, and 2 Junior Academics. Some of the members are not collectors but rather interested in the related themes, History, Militaria, Biography, Heraldry, Genealogy, Goldsmiths and others, all of whom are welcome.
The annual fee confers the following privileges:
Bulletin – Pro Phalaris: Free reception of the Bulletin published biannually by AFP.
Meetings, lectures and courses: Access to annual meetings, lectures and courses organized by the Academy.
Community: Be part of a community of people with similar interests exchanging experiences, information and knowledge.
Activities of the AFP: Participation in other activities promoted by AFP: e.g. events such as Auctions, Fairs and Exhibitions.
Questions & Answers: Through the Academics Website and the Newsletter, post questions and get answers about Phaleristics e.g. Identification of insignia, medals and decorations.
Information: Through the Academic Support Service, access information on Auctions, Fairs, Exhibitions, Congresses, and Seminars.
Authentic or Copy? Through the Academic Support Service, get information on copies, reproductions, and restrikes (insignia / medals manufactured with original dies or molds, made at a date after the regular award of the medal/decoration).

Registration Fee: €50,00 + Annual Subscription Fee: €40,00 (Due annually in January).
