With this issue # 14, we close the year 2016, with a lead article paying tribute to King D. Manuel II, of Portugal in the Great War, and his Honours, within the commemorations of the its I Centennary! For the first time the full list of the King’s Honours is published whenever possible with the dates of awards and it sources.
In our rubric Iconographic Memoirs we publish an excellent portrait with decorations of Colonel Jean-Bpatiste Maler, (Knight Commander of the Military Order of Chrsit) a Royalist Officer and émigré who fought in Spain and Portugal against Republican or Bonapartist France, and who was appointed Consul of King Louis XVIII at the Portuguese Court at Rio de Janeiro where he treid to upheld French interests against the rising influence of the British.
The task the Editors undertook from the outset of publishing summaries (précis) in English and French of the Bulletin’s main articles, on behalf of our large number of foreign members and readers, which is almost unique in the world of Phaleristics magazines, delays considerably its publication due to the enormous effort that translations imply. Lately, we have obtained the gracious collaboration of our friend and Correspondant Academic Colonel BEM (Ret.) Eric Tripnaux-Monin for some of the translations into French, to whom we wish to warmly thank.
