New Spanish Army Museum, Toledo

The Magazine of the Spanish Army – «Ejército», extra issue of June 2010, is dedicated to the new Army Museum, opened at the Alcazar in Toledo, by the Prince of Asturias on July 19th.
The Spanish Army Museum used to be located at Madrid and its relocation to Toledo decided by the former Aznar government was not without polemic, the Ministry of Defence being accused of imposing the Law of Historical Memory to the Museum, and with some experts saying that only but a fifth of the Museum collections would be exhibited at Toledo.
Nevertheless, after initial hesitations, the team responsible for the museological project decided to create na independent thematic dedicated to Phaleristics, recognising its historical importance, creating an autonomous space for the exhibition of the valuable collection of insignia, medals and decorations which belong to the Museum funds.
